Startup companies, government agencies, universities, and airlines are working together to develop electric aircraft capable of vertical takeoff and efficient horizontal flight. These small aircraft will one day replace car commuting and short-haul flights in metropolitan areas, flying between vertiports, airports, hospitals, and cargo depots, reducing travel times, noise pollution, commuter frustrations, and greenhouse-gas emissions to boot.
The North Texas Cohort, a consortium of companies and universities led by Unmanned Experts Inc. and the University of North Texas, operates an experimental air corridor north of Dallas, Texas, to research and evaluate technologies that will ensure passenger safety and provide valuable insight to lawmakers as they develop new regulations and flight rules.
